MODULES INCLUDE:

MODULE 1: PERSONAL INVENTORY

INTERESTS, TALENTS, APTITUDES, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Learn about your personal passions & assets, what you like to do, and what you would like to learn. Find out what unique talents you have to offer and how the world perceives those abilities. Explore & respond to material from today's thought leaders about how to make connections from your interests to solve problems in the community.

MODULE 2: SENSE OF PURPOSE

DEFINE & IDENTIFY IN SELF & OTHERS

Discover the work of researchers from Stanford University and what they have to say about developing one's sense of purpose and listening to one's own voice to pursue life & career pathways. Participate in cohort questionnaire to determine what really matters to you and why. Observe the work of people changing the world with their purpose as a guide.

MODULE 3: PERSONAL BRANDING & MISSION STATEMENT

Explore successful personal branding and begin to develop your own. Study corporate, non-profit, and individual mission statements. Using the personal inventories and purpose work, develop a mission statement describing yourself and how you plan to "change the world" during the course. At this stage you will also begin building your Digital Portfolio.

MODULE 4: SENSE OF COMMUNITY

PERSONAL, LOCAL, NATIONAL, INTERNATIONAL

Who or what is your "tribe", and how does that guide your activities and priorities in life? Here you will find a place where you can make a difference. Learn from others about their sense of community and what they did to make those connections. Explore ways to network within your community, and how to work outside of your comfort zone.

MODULE 5: ISSUES RESEARCH & NEEDS ASSESSMENT

Explore the United Nations Global Goals and investigate work currently being done. Research and contact existing organizations. Choose & learn about your cause. Map current community resources and assets, and conduct informational interviews for feedback and/or mentorship from professionals.

MODULE 6: DEVELOP PROJECT

Master and implement skills of Design Thinking to sketch and plan your project! Use your research to choose best practices and action strategies. Engage and network with community partners. Receive feedback and customize your project. Continue building your Digital Portfolio. Prepare and plan for success!

MODULE 7: PROJECT EXECUTION

Put all of your plans INTO ACTION!
At this stage, you will put everything you've studied, researched, and designed together - you will build partnerships, engage public officials, gather resources and tell your story! You will learn how to recruit and work with volunteers, and organize events to promote your vision!

MODULE 8: DOCUMENTATION & REFLECTION

SHARE YOUR VISION!

Reflect on what you are learning and doing. Evaluate the work you've done on your project and the potential outcomes, as well as determine where the project is going and how you can sustain it. Demonstrate and showcase your results, and then CELEBRATE your success!
DON'T FORGET - BONUS MATERIAL!
BONUS MODULES INCLUDE:
PERSONAL BRANDING & ELECTRONIC PROFILE

Create a winning resume & electronic profile that showcase your sense of purpose and mission statement - without ever having had a paid job! Make use of your authentic service experience as a means to make contacts & open doors in your areas of interest. Get some real experience, rather than flipping burgers for that first job. (Though flipping burgers can be beneficial, too!)
NETWORKING 101

Learn how to converse and make meaningful contacts with professionals and others in your areas of interest. Study what the pros have to say about building synergistic connections, build a sense of community at work and school, and how to relate to anyone!
JOB SEEKERS SECRETS!

Develop your list of questions to conduct productive INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEWS! We are no longer in a world where you can just apply for a job online - too many others are applying at the same time! Be assertive, gather data about a company, organization, or position you are interested in, then TALK to the people who can help you make your life & career dreams come true!
THE "PARACHUTE FLOWER" LIFE & CAREER GUIDE

How well do you know yourself, and how will that affect your choices and priorities as you make those post-secondary plans? From one of our books of study, What Color is Your Parachute?, work through the process of developing your own list of "values, environment, skills, interests, working conditions, geography, salary and level of responsibility" (from R. Bolles). Keep this essential guide handy for decades to come!
WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING...
"Get Involved has helped me grow so much as a student, as an intern, and as a person. Without the program, I don't think I ever would have discovered this passion, or been able to fully realize it. It's a truly unique experience that provides invaluable lessons that are extremely applicable to everyday life and the real world - a lot of which is exactly what students need as they begin to approach their post-high school career."
Candace Wang
"This [program] improved my organization, management and event planning skills. Seeing how volunteer work has such positive effects on my peers' lives inspires me to keep volunteering and explore career pathways related to my community service endeavors."
Aidan Maese-Czeropski
"The Get Involved academy has helped my daughter more than I could have ever expected. Not only did she find something she is interested in, and learned how to pursue that dream, but she also learned how to apply everything she took from the course to her interactions with professional adults. There is no better preparation for the adult-world than working in the Get Involved program!"
